Prepping Your Vehicle for Winter

Winter can take a toll on your Honda and you must be prepared to face the cold and wintry driving conditions. You need to take an assessment of your vehicle to make sure everything is in order and you do not suffer any unexpected break downs or mishaps.

Before Winter Arrives…

• Oil: You want to make sure you have enough clean oil in the car and the reservoir is full. You also may want to consider replacing any standard oils you have in your Honda with a synthetic one. Standard oils tend to thicken in the cold weather and it makes starting your car a little harder on the internal parts. Thick oil does not flow and provides the necessary lubrication until it heats up. Synthetic oils and blends, on the other hand, flow better at low temperatures and will protect your engine parts right away.
• Tires: The last thing you want is balding tires when driving on snowy, rain, or sleet covered roads. If there is not enough tread on your tires, the vehicle can start to slide across the road and cause an accident. You also want to check how the tire tread is wearing down as this is often an indication of other issues like a bad ball joint or the wheels are out of alignment.
• Battery: The battery can take a beating during the hot summer weather in Fort Worth, Texas. Eventually, the heat stress will weaken the battery enough that it will have trouble starting your car once the weather turns cold. You want to make sure the battery is charging and holding a charge correctly.
